Western Cattle Source is near Crawford, Nebraska. Jock and Brenda Beeson care about their land. They are making land management and conservation a priority at Western Cattle Source and Quarter Horses. Their land is intermingled with the Oglala National Grasslands where cattle and horses graze on natural grasses such as Grama, Wheat and Buffalo grasses. Adding water pipelines and new fencing has made pasture rotation much more efficient and easier to do on a regular basis. The addition of tree belts not only provide wildlife habitat but prevent soil erosion as well. The restructuring of dams has been a major but necessary undertaking. Adding game fish to these dams will add an extra component to the wildlife structure not to mention some great fishing.

The registered cows run under the same conditions as their commercial cows.

The registered cows have to meet the same stringent standards (breed back every year, calve easy, wean a big calf, structural correctness, to name a few), if not they go to town. Both the commercial and award winning registered Simmental cattle along with a small herd of Longhorns are not only raised on natural grasses but are only vaccinated with preventative vaccines and minimal antibiotics.

Western Cattle Source strives to produce Simmental and Angus cattle that will succeed in the show ring, if so desired, but most importantly will perform under range conditions and excel in the feedlot and on the rail. They strive to produce bulls and females that will benefit the seed stock producer and the quality conscious commercial cattlemen and women, because they are our their bread and butter. They have bull and females scattered from Montana to Virginia in commercial herds, purebred and club calf operations. They are all satisfied customers.
